The biggest flat steel producers from region ArcelorMittal, ThyssenKrupp and Salzgitter are reportedly planning the €20/t increase from 1 July what would be the first increase in 12 months. The analyst said, the most people think the end of prices falling has come.
But despite their success in increasing prices in May on the back of a slight rise in orders and small import penetration, destocking still has another month or two left to run, he said. Furthermore, essential increase in consumption is not expected until Q4 and possibly not before Q1 next year. Stock are still high in comparation with order levels. The analyst cautioned that the nascent stability in prices could encourage buyers to start buying from third country mills, who have been price out of the European market for many months due to the low prices and short lead times of domestic mills.
