Is July bringing the increase of the prices?

1. 7. 2009

Distributors and mill sources say, spot prices for European flat products have been stable in May and June but the end of most destocking is helping mills raise prices for July deliveries. According to several sources an increase of €20/t for sheet are taking place across the region and others say the rise has already been accepted in the German market.

Germany in June
hot rolled coil - €385/t
cold rolled coil - €430/t
hot dipped galvanised - around €440/t

Source said: „Prices are steady at these levels but only because so much production capacity has been closed and there are few imports available, Also destocking has almost finished. We have to order new material but we are buying as little as possible.”

French prices are almost the same as in Germany, say market sources.

Spanish between May and June:
HRC - €340-360/t
CRC - €395/t
HDG - between €460-475/t

The cheaper HRC is from Italy and the UK, the source said, and small volumes of imports from Libya. Germany and local mills account for the upper end of the price range.

UK:
HRC - steady £320/t
CRC - down by £5/t at £365/t
HDG - £440/t
